Welcome to my reveal post for the bead peeps Swap 'n' hop hosted by the the lovely Linda Anderson, my wonderful partner was the amazingly talented Melissa Trudinger of Boho Bird Jewellery and here are the treasures she sent me....
Totally spoilt and a little overwhelmed I set to work, For my first piece I used the lovely Soar charm made by Melissa herself! I knew I wanted to use it as a focal in a bracelet so I built a prong set cage for it out of copper.....
To this I added some Raku beads, a couple of the druzy beads Melissa sent and the lovely bird clasp, now I am not 100% happy with this, I love how the focal looks but the rest of the bracelet feels too chunky so I plan to remake it using smaller beads and some turquoise nuggets to match the beautiful colour of the focal (just have to wait until they arrive in the post)!
For my second piece I used one of the lovely wooden beads, and the sweet silver six pence coins. The coins have holes drilled in them and were then set in place using some copper tube to rivet them together.
I then simply made a thick copper head pin for it, again this piece is still a work in progress, I plan to use my wood burner to burn a design into the bead, I just have not built up the courage to do so yet (but I will)!!!
My Last and most favourite design possibly ever, uses the green spike focal by Peruzi! I Love this spike and knew what I wanted to do with it straight away, first I cut off the small wire hoop at the top and set about making it a copper and silver setting, then I chose a coin to go with it....
A very old Spanish coin, Then I made up a double prong setting for the coin from 1mm silver wire (this was an utter pain as I had no idea how to actually make this, but after a couple of attempts I managed to figure it out).
Then it was hung from some lovely old looking sari silk and attached to a hammered silver choker with soldered copper hoops and a bit of wire wrapping to hold it all in place!....
It took a lot longer then I had hoped to get it right, But I really LOVE this necklace!!! Now there will have to be a follow up post to this one because I do have some more works in progress that I ran out of time with!!! Thank you so much for visiting, I do hope you will join me checking out the other #BeadPeepsSwap participants....
