Jewellery or jewelry is small decorative items worn for personal adornment, such as brooches, rings, necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Jewellery may be attached to the body or the clothes, and the term is restricted to durable ornaments, excluding flowers for example. For many centuries metal, often combined with gemstones, has been the normal material for jewellery, but other materials such as shells and other plant materials may be used. It is one of the oldest type of archaeological artefact – with 100,000-year-old beads made from Nassarius shells thought to be the oldest known jewellery. The basic forms of jewellery vary between cultures but are often extremely long-lived; in Western cultures the most common forms of jewellery listed above have persisted since ancient times, while other forms such as adornments for the nose or ankle, important in other cultues, are much less common.

These is so very much I could say about jewellery, from how much I love Roman designs and carved gems to my most favorite designed of all times ever, Rene Lalique. But instead of ratling on forever I just though I would tell you how i got into jewellery making and then show you some pretty pics....

I gave up my job as a supervisor in a pharmacy to raise my daughter full time in 2010. I soon found that I then needed a hobby something that was not baby centered and that would keep me busy at nap times and in the evenings, I have always loved making things and while browsing the net I stumbled across a blog called how to jewellery, I fell in love with some of the designs, and from then on I was hooked! I then found more stunning blogs and amazing designers and decided to start my own blog as a way of documenting my makes and conecting with other creatives, so here I am four years later still enjoying making jewellery and still learning.

Yesterday I got my package back from the Assay office so I thought I would share some of my new pieces....

Titanium Druzy necklace set in sterling silver, with a sparkly chain.

Moogin lampwork cab (my favorite artist for lampwork cabs) set to form a clasp, byzantine bracelet.

Lampwork murrini headpin by the amazing Jen Cameron of Glass Addictions (I completly LOVE these) set in a sterling silver ring.

Most expensive to date....

Do you ever have an idea for a bit of jewellery of a craft item and keep putting it off because you know it will cost silly amounts to make? Well here's mine....

I have wanted to make this for ages but knew it would take hundreds of silver rings to make, almost 500 to be exact (the reason I don't make chainmaille necklaces), but in my head (and sketch book)I had already committed the beads to this design and could not possibly use them for any thing else, it seemed such a waste, them just sitting there, in there lonely little pot....

So enough feeble excuses, I just had to make this piece!

(I'm sure that I don't need to tell you that these beads are by the lovely Laura)

So now it has to go sit in another little pot with all my other bits too wait to be sent off for hallmarking.

Hmmmm now what to call it.............

Ice lantern

I remade the fire lantern necklace in silver (love how it turned out)....

Two meters of silver and whole day spent measuring, cutting, filing, twisting and hammering (strangely relaxing)....

 Silver and white makes for a much colder feel, kinda reflects the weather here at the moment, we are still waiting for summer to start!

 Made with some of my fab beads by Laura of course.

Defiantly going to have to make a few more of these.

Fire lantern

I'm yet again (as often seems to be the case) out of silver and awaiting more, but when I get that itch to make some thing, then make some thing I must....

1mm copper wire to the resuce, throw in a handful of glass beads, lots of cutting, filing, bending, sawing and hammering....Itch gone fire lantern necklace made

I don't know why but for some reason I can't seem to bring my self to put orange beads with silver, I always seem to team them with copper????

 I really enjoyed making the figure of 8 chain, which for me was strange coz it took sooooooooo long to make.

Definatly going to try making this in silver

photo dilemma

Do you ever have one of those pieces that you just can't photo. Well try as I might I just cant do this piece justice.....

I have tried to photo it indoors and out and I just dont seem to be able to get the lighting right. The main bead is a luminobead by Laura (she's back people!) and it just glows but its very hard to get that glow on camera!

This is the back view. It ties up with a ribbon so is really girly! I think I will try again with the photos tomorrow.
